The programme, now in its fourth year, is offered to teachers across England by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust in partnership with the Teachers Network Organisation in the United States and Teachnet Ireland, with generous sponsorship from Citigroup Foundation and Adobe.
The Teachnet UK site is about sharing ... primary, secondary and special school teachers creating classroom materials for other teachers and sharing ideas as to how the materials can be adapted and extended beyond the four/five hours' teaching for which they have been designed.
Teachers receive an Award of £450 for successful projects and a certificate of participation, in addition to the professional development training they need to complete their project work!
There are over 100 resources on the site, covering a range of subjects and key stages. Teachers across the world are welcome to download and use the resources in their own classrooms, and to adapt them to the needs of their students .. providing of course, that the original author is acknowledged at all times. The copyright of the resource remains with the author.
And so, if you are interested in becoming a Teachnet participant, or merely in using the resources with your own students, then do visit the Teachnet UK website - www.teachnet-uk.org.uk or email Glyn Barritt directly.
Some schools are using this progamme to provide professional development and cross-curricular collaboration for their teachers ... whilst in Kent, some teachers have formed what may be described as our first Teachnet consortium for modern languages, seeking to plug current gaps in the French, Spanish and German resource pool!
