Warwick University Research Findings

Engaging Parents in Raising Achievement - Do parents know they matter?

We are delighted to officially launch the Warwick University Research findings presented by Professor Alma Harris and Dr. Janet Goodall: 'Engaging Parents in Raising Achievement - Do parents know they matter?'

This research has run alongside the campaign work in schools to look into indicators of impact of parental engagement activity on behaviour and achievement.  The research findings will continue to support our work with schools in providing solutions to the challenges we face in engaging parents to raise achievement.

EPRA Toolkit

Produced by schools on the project to support the development of the parental engagement agenda is now live and available to all affiliated schools.

'This toolkit is about moving to the latest action research about how parents really can make a difference into practice.  It will enable all schools on their journeys from traditional providers of information to become proactive harnessers of all that parents can bring to their children's education.'

The toolkit provides schools with a one stop shop to:

  • Evaluate current practice (the framework shows areas of engagement at different levels on the journey, from 'beginning' to 'extended'.  Schools can add their own evidence as well as include further forms of engagement as they move this agenda forward)

  • Access tried and tested strategies (developed in a wide variety of schools)

  • Share the evidence that demonstrates why developing parental engagement in school impacts postively on achievement and behaviour

The EPRA toolkit is an ideal resource for schools committed to developing the parental engagement agenda.

The campaign and research was funded through the DfES (the DfES became the DCSF in July 2007)
