Sponsorship guidance

Funding for specialist schools comes from government and the private sector. A school aiming for specialist school status must attract at least £50,000 of private sector support to secure matched funds from Government, which equate to nearly £600,000 over four years.

Though schools need to raise funds themselves, the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust can offer some support and advice.

Sponsorship Support

In assessing schools for funding support, preference is given to schools:

  • In socially disadvantaged areas;
  • Affiliated to the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust;
  • Which meet sponsors' location preferences.

Partnership Fund
 
This is designed to help schools which can demonstrate that, in spite of determined effort, they have not be been able to raise the sponsorship necessary to apply for specialist status. The Fund is run by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust in accordance with DfES guidelines.
